Book Description |
| The Light Keepers invites readers into the secluded, windswept world of the United States Lighthouse Service — where steadfast duty, isolation, and perilous seas define the lives of the men (and sometimes boys) who tend the lights. When young Sidney Harlow is cast adrift and rescued by the crew of Carys’ Ledge lighthouse, he becomes part of their tight-knit world of flashing lenses, ice-bound towers, and life-saving heroism. Captain Ephraim Downs, Mr. Samuel Peters, and Uncle Zenas Stubbs face storms, wrecks, and mechanical-minded regulations — yet their highest beacon is human character. Rich in maritime atmosphere, technical detail, and moral purpose, Kaler’s tale celebrates the rugged individuals who hold the light so that others may find safe passage through the darkness. |
