About Author

Julia Donaldson is a British author, playwright, and performer best known for her hugely popular children’s picture books written in rhyme. Born in London in 1948, she studied Drama and Song at the University of Bristol and began her career writing songs and performing for children.

Donaldson rose to international fame with The Gruffalo (1999), illustrated by Axel Scheffler, which became a modern classic and launched a long-running creative partnership. She has since written hundreds of books, including Room on the Broom, Stick Man, and Zog, many of which have been adapted for stage, television, and film. From 2011 to 2013, she served as the UK Children’s Laureate, and her work is celebrated for its rhythm, humor, and deep understanding of how children engage with language and story.
