Andrew Lang (1844–1912) was a Scottish writer, poet, historian, and folklorist best known for his collections of fairy tales and his works on mythology and literature. Born in Selkirk, Scotland, he studied at the University of St. Andrews and Balliol College, Oxford. Lang was a prolific author and editor, with a wide range of interests including anthropology, history, and literary criticism.

His most famous work is The Rainbow Fairy Books, a series of twelve collections of fairy tales from around the world, starting with The Blue Fairy Book (1889). He also wrote extensively on folklore, myths, and classical literature, helping to popularize these subjects for Victorian readers.

Beyond folklore, Lang contributed to historical studies, particularly on Scotland, and was a skilled translator. His influence on children’s literature and the study of mythology remains significant.
