Jack London (1876–1916) was an American novelist, journalist, and social activist, best known for his adventure novels and short stories. He worked various jobs as a young man, including as a sailor and a gold prospector in the Klondike, both of which inspired many of his stories. London’s most famous works include The Call of the Wild (1903) and White Fang (1906), which are set in the harsh, unforgiving environments of the Yukon and focus on survival, the animal instinct, and human nature. His other notable works include The Sea-Wolf (1904), Martin Eden (1909), and The Iron Heel (1908), which reflects his socialist beliefs.
