Book Description

Rilla of Ingleside by Lucy Maud Montgomery is the eighth and final book in the Anne of Green Gables series, and it takes a poignant turn as it explores the effects of World War I on the residents of Glen St. Mary, especially on Anne’s youngest daughter, Rilla Blythe. As the war rages on, Rilla must come of age quickly, facing the challenges of fear, separation, and the emotional toll that the war brings. While her brothers, including the brave Walter, go off to fight, Rilla stays at home, learning what it means to love and lose, while also discovering her own inner strength. Through Rilla’s journey, Montgomery addresses themes of courage, sacrifice, and the resilience of the human spirit. Filled with both heartache and hope, Rilla of Ingleside is a powerful and emotional conclusion to the beloved series.
