About Author

William Gibson (born 1948) is an American-Canadian author widely credited with founding the Cyberpunk subgenre of Science Fiction. Born in South Carolina and later settling in Canada, Gibson developed an early fascination with counterculture, technology, and speculative futures. He rose to prominence with his debut novel Neuromancer (1984), which introduced influential concepts such as cyberspace and virtual reality years before they became part of everyday technological discourse.

Gibson’s work is known for its sharp prose, noir sensibility, and focus on how technology reshapes culture, identity, and power. Beyond Neuromancer and the Sprawl trilogy, his novels—such as Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive, and later near-future works like Pattern Recognition—shifted Science Fiction toward grounded, contemporary speculation. His influence extends far beyond literature, shaping film, music, fashion, and how modern society imagines the digital world, cementing his legacy as one of the most important speculative writers of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
