About Author

Yaba Badoe is a Ghanaian-born author, journalist, and documentary filmmaker whose work explores African history, mythology, and the enduring effects of colonialism. Educated in Ghana and the United Kingdom, Badoe studied English at the University of Sussex and later trained as a journalist. Her background in investigative reporting and filmmaking strongly informs her fiction, lending it historical depth, political awareness, and emotional nuance.

Badoe is best known as a novelist for works such as A Jigsaw of Fire and Stars, which blends African folklore with themes of exile, identity, and resilience, particularly from the perspective of young women. In addition to fiction, she has directed and produced award-winning documentaries focusing on African women, history, and social justice. Through both her literary and visual storytelling, Badoe has established herself as an important voice in contemporary African literature and cultural discourse.
