Book Description

Lagoon is a science fiction novel by Nnedi Okorafor that imagines a first-contact event unfolding in modern-day Lagos, Nigeria. When extraterrestrial beings emerge from the ocean, their arrival ripples through the city, drawing together a diverse cast that includes a marine biologist, a rapper, a soldier, and a sentient swordfish. As chaos, wonder, and fear spread, the novel explores how culture, power, myth, and humanity collide in the face of the unknown. Blending folklore with futurism, Lagoon presents an Afrofuturist vision of alien invasion unlike any other.
