Ward writes under the pen name J. R. Ward for paranormal romance and urban fantasy, while also publishing contemporary romance under her real name, Jessica Bird. Her work is known for blending intense romance with action, mythology, and emotional trauma, often featuring flawed, battle-scarred protagonists.
